The new work VINGESLAG (Danish for ‘wingbeat’) explores collective presence, swarm behavior, and intertwining lines – like a flock of birds migrating from one place to another. It stages a series of contrasts: Distance and proximity, noise and silence, movement and stillness.
Organic waves transition from one sonic sensation to the next, shifting between resistance and flow. What first appears as light as a feather soon unfolds as heavy and overwhelming. Chaos and cacophony morph into choreographed and systemized sounds.
From trance-like grooves to abstract ambiences that seem torn apart, the four musicians and composers present a wide array of sounds brought by non-melodic acoustic percussive instruments. The music oscillates between moments of simple rhythms with strong physicality and more spatial experiences filled with ambience and abstract textures. A piece that aims to loosen rather than tighten and to create space instead of filling it up.

The Copenhagen-based quartet Blomsten (‘The Flower’) works with percussion, drums, and cymbals in a circular choreography assembled as one instrument in the shape of a flower. Together, the group has created the works BLOOM (2021) and DROPS (2022) and released their debut album Pladsen in 2024 on the label Aar & Dag. The circular architecture of the drum layout allows the performers to use physical movement and gestures as an integrated part of their compositions. This makes the quartet a fascinating sight to behold, while also lending itself to a different sensibility of sound, as the performers guide their sticks, brushes, and mallets in new and unexpected ways.
